We had a busy and exciting week in our classroom! Students worked hard across all subject areas, and we spent time preparing for our Spring Concert . After lots of practice, students did an amazing job and truly shined during their performance on Thursday evening. We are so proud of them!  Phonics  Students focused on the /er/ sound found in words such as her , term , and winter . We practiced reading and spelling words with this pattern through daily phonics routines and activities. Students are continuing to build confidence in recognizing and using these sound patterns in both reading and writing.  Writing Our class  learned about Earth Day and discussed ways we can all help keep our planet healthy. They wrote about how they can do their part, sharing thoughtful ideas such as recycling, reducing waste, and taking care of the environment.  We also completed a reading comprehension activity  focused on reduce, reuse, and recycle , helping students better...

We had a great week in our classroom filled with lots of learning and hands-on activities! Students worked hard across all subject areas and enjoyed some special moments together, including meeting up with our Grade 3 buddies to look for signs of spring. It was wonderful to see their excitement as they explored the outdoors and noticed the changes happening around us.  McKenzie Towne School is excited to present our Spring Concert for the Grade 2 classes on Thursday April 23rd:  🎵  Singing Through the Seasons  🎵 There will be 2 performances open to families. The daytime dress rehearsal is open to families to come watch. Week of March 30th

We had a wonderful first week back after Spring Break! It was so nice to see everyone again and hear about students’ holidays. We kicked off the week with a fun pancake breakfast, which was a great way to reconnect as a school and start the week together.  Phonics Students have been learning new letter sounds and spelling patterns. This week we focused on the , and the -le ending (as in little and table). Over the past two months, students have been learning the letter  sounds y /Ä«/ (as in my), y /Ä“/ (as in happy).  Students practiced reading and spelling words with these patterns through daily phonics routines and word work activities.  Next week, we will begin with a review of all these sounds on Monday to help strengthen confidence and understanding. On Tuesday, we will start learning the /ar/ sound found in words such as car, march, and hard. Continued practice reviewing words at home can help students build strong reading and spelling skills.
