Week of June 8

Looking back on learning...

Language Arts
Students learned about words containing the oo/u sound, such as the words book, look, cook, and put.

Students also used a picture prompt to inspire their writing. We focused on including a clear character and setting in our stories and used our imaginations to create interesting narratives. It was exciting to see the creativity and unique ideas students brought to their writing!

Math
Students spent time reviewing many of the concepts they have learned throughout the year. Student practiced skills including:
- Addition and subtraction (with and without regrouping)
- Place value
-2D and 3D shapes and Shape attributes

Science
Students began creating a plant growth flipbook to summarize their learning from our Living Systems unit. We reviewed the stages of plant growth and the important things plants need to survive. Students are doing a great job organizing their learning and demonstrating what they know about how plants grow and change over time.

Art
Students learned about James Rizzi, an artist known for his colourful, vibrant, and playful cityscape artwork. We explored some of his pieces and discussed the unique style he used to create lively urban scenes. Students were inspired by his artwork and will be using some of these ideas in their own creative projects. We also discussed the different shapes we see in the pictures, which related to our math topic of shapes!
