Week of May 19

Looking back on learning...

Language Arts
Students practiced reading and writing words with the long E sound spelled ee, ea, and ey. We used these spelling patterns to write sentences and worked on using capitals, spacing, and punctuation correctly.

Math
We began learning about 2D and 3D shapes. Students explored the different attributes of shapes, including faces, vertices, and edges

We also worked on connecting 2D and 3D shapes by recognizing how 2D shapes make up the flat surfaces, or faces, of 3D objects. Students enjoyed identifying shapes in the classroom and discussing how they relate to objects we use every day.

Science
Students learned about the life cycle of a flower. We explored each stage of the cycle and discussed how plants grow and change over time. To help reinforce this learning, students created a craft showing the different stages of a flower’s life cycle. They did a wonderful job demonstrating their understanding through both art and science.

Art & Buddies
This week, we met up with our Grade 3 buddies and learned how to draw a treehouse together. Students showed great creativity and focus while following the guided drawing steps, and their finished artwork turned out beautifully.

We also had a couple of very exciting visits with the kindergarten class’s gosling, Johnny Marshmallow! Students loved observing and learning about the gosling, and it brought lots of excitement to our week.
