Week of April 27
We had another great week filled with learning, creativity, and collaboration! Students worked both independently and with partners, and it was wonderful to see their engagement across all subject areas.
Phonics
Students focused on the /ur/ and /ir/ sounds found in words such as fur, turn, bird, and shirt. We practiced reading and spelling words with these patterns through daily phonics routines and activities. Students are continuing to build confidence in recognizing these sounds and applying them in both reading and writing.
Writing
Students learned about the format of letter writing. We discussed the different parts of a letter and how to organize our ideas clearly. We will continue writing Friday letters home to families so you can stay connected and see what we’ve been learning each week. We are excited to start sharing our learning in this new way!

Math
We wrapped up our unit on addition and subtraction with regrouping. Students have worked hard to build their understanding of place value and solve problems accurately using different strategies. Next week, we will begin our new unit on measurement, where students will explore length, height, and other ways to measure and compare objects.

Science
Students began an animal research project with a partner. They chose an animal to learn more about and began exploring important information such as where the animal lives, what it eats, and its unique characteristics. Students did a great job working collaboratively and sharing their ideas with their research team!
Art
In art, we started creating our fruit slice artwork. This activity connected nicely to our previous math learning, as students thought about fractions when creating their designs, such as showing 1/4 of a fruit slice.
Students have been very creative, and we are excited to continue working on these projects!

Buddies
This week, we met with our Grade 3 buddies to look for concrete evidence of signs of spring. Students explored the outdoors, observed changes in nature, and shared their findings with one another. We also practiced using calm sit spots and took time to enjoy the beautiful spring weather. It was a wonderful way to connect our learning with the world around us.
